Solar Eclipse at Greenwich, 1891

Dozens of people turned up at the General Wolfe statue today for the public viewing event of the solar eclipse. Unfortunately there wasn't much to see due to cloud cover but those there seemed to enjoy the atmosphere of the event anyway. But I've had a look through the British Newspaper Archive and dug up this newspaper cutting describing the eclipse of 1891, as seen from Greenwich.

Yes, a bit of a damp squib, wasn't it? I was a few miles away from Greenwich in Holborn and the low cloud cover at around 08.30 was probably the thickest all day. A couple of hours later it was bright sunlight! Grrr ...

Out of curiosity, what was the date of the 1891 eclipse?

Hi Alan, the newspaper report came from Monday 8th June 1891 so think the actual eclipse was Saturday 6th June.
