The SS Robin is one of only three ships in London that feature in the National Historic Fleet's Core Collection (the others being Cutty Sark and HMS Belfast). The Victorian steamship, built in East London, is now at her new permanent home in the Royal Docks. With Heritage Lottery Funding secured, the final phase of her restoration can begin and she will open to the public next year. The floating pontoon she is on is expected to be positioned close to the cable car terminal. The Duke of Edinburgh, who campaigned to have Robin saved and is honorary member of the Trust, visited the docks yesterday to unveil a plaque marking her new home. The 91-year-old appeared sprightly, showing no signs of the illness that forced him to withdraw from a function earlier in the week or that would see him admitted to hospital this evening.
