The New Years Honours list was released at midnight and there are a couple of Greenwich connections within the 1200 recipients of awards. Donald Simms Yeoman, Greenwich Foundation for the Old Royal Naval College, gets a British Empire Medal (BEM) for services to the community in the Royal Borough of Greenwich. Ms Marguerite MCLAUGHLIN Chief Executive, Metro Centre in Norman Road. gets a BEM For services to Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender, and African People in London and the South East. Lord Coe, chair of London 2012, has been made a Companion of Honour. The full list is here - have you seen anyone else on there with a Greenwich connection?
There are a few others with ties to the wider Greenwich Borough:- Catherine (Kate) Bush - singer/songwriter who lived in Plumstead and Eltham gets a CBE for services to music Anthony William (Tony) Pidgley - chairman of Berkeley Homes with many major developments in the area including Woolwich Arsenal and Kidbrooke Village receives a CBE for services to the Housing Sector and the community I can see one notable ommission as the widely tipped honour for Chris Roberts, Leader of Greenwich Council, has failed to materialise this year.
