There will be a MOPAC ( Mayor's Office for Policing and Crime) meeting in Greenwich on October 21st hosted by the Deputy Mayor for Policing and Crime, Stephen Greenhalgh and the Metropolitan Police. Greenwich residents are being encouraged to give their views on crime and policing in their area on Tuesday 21 October 2014, at the latest in a series of borough meetings hosted by the Deputy Mayor for Policing and Crime, Stephen Greenhalgh and the Metropolitan Police.

For the second time this year, Londoners are being encouraged to give their views on crime and local policing in their area at a series of borough meetings hosted by the Deputy Mayor for Policing and Crime, Stephen Greenhalgh and the Metropolitan Police, with one in Greenwich on Tuesday 21 October 2014.

The ‘Your Police, Your Say’ roadshows, run by the Mayor’s Office for Policing And Crime (MOPAC) will give Londoners an opportunity to raise any community safety issues in their area and comment on the changes made to improve local policing following the publication of the Mayor’s Police and Crime Plan in March 2013.

This plan set out the Mayor’s mission to make London the safest big city on earth and challenged the Met to cut seven key neighbourhood crimes by 20 per cent, boost public confidence by 20 per cent, whilst cutting costs by 20 per cent by 2016.

Since the Plan was introduced 2,600 officers have been moved from back office to frontline duties, including 88 in Greenwich. The borough has seen a drop in four of the seven key crimes types – burglary, vandalism (criminal damage), robbery and theft from the person. However theft of and from motor vehicles and violence with injury have all seen a rise, something which the Borough Commander and the Deputy Mayor are determined to reverse.

The Deputy Mayor for Policing, Stephen Greenhalgh said: “As our changes to strengthen local policing take effect it’s vital that we hear what local residents and businesses have to say. Crime in London is coming down and in Greenwich there has been a drop in four of seven key crime indicators, thanks to the efforts of the Borough Commander and her team. However we are facing challenges in other areas. We know there is more work to be done as we want to see crime fall right across the board. I’d encourage local people in Greenwich who want to know more about what the Mayor’s Office and the Met Police are doing in their area to drive down crime to come along tonight and join in.”

Greenwich Borough Commander, Chief Superintendent Helen Millichap said: "This is a great chance for the people of Greenwich not only to come and find out how we are tackling and reducing crime in the borough, but also to ask us any questions they might have on issues of crime and safety. I'd really encourage people to take up this opportunity to come along and give us their thoughts and ideas, as we can only be successful if we've got the support of our local communities."
