Volunteering Matters is a Charity in Greenwich whose Volunteers Supporting Families programme recruits and trains volunteers from the local community to
provide additional support to families who are subject to a child protection plan or have additional support needs.
Volunteers complement the work of social care teams and are only involved with families who have agreed to
the additional support. The aim of the project is to achieve positive outcomes for children and to keep
    families together.

As a volunteer for us you will need to be able to:

    • commit to supporting a family for a minimum of six months
    • visit the family and children on a regular basis, which will depend on the needs of the family
    • build up a relationship of trust and mutual respect with the family
    • support the family and help them engage with local services
    • assist the family with practical activities
    • empower the families to be more independent
Volunteering Matters volunteers are able to make use of their experience of family life and can offer the benefit of that experience to the families they support. Volunteers visit families in their own homes, supporting them by listening and offering practical help. All volunteers receive comprehensive training to prepare for the role.
    In addition, every volunteer receives:
    • regular individual support from Volunteering Matters
    • access to group meetings with other volunteers involved in the project, which provide both practical and social support
    • reimbursement of travel and other out-of-pocket expenses
    • great satisfaction from supporting a family in need
